Teaching First Aid in SJKC Nan Chiew

This morning we taught first aid in SJK(C) Nan Chiew.

Had a simple closing ceremony after that.

Each of us were given a paper bag with these little cuties inside.
It was something different from usual.

I decided to give this cutie to a cute friend of mine.
I won't use it anyway.

Fruit juice

Spend some of your "creative" and "bright" mind to guess what kind of fruit juice is this.
natural coloring - safe to consume!

dengue coming to town

Local council had started to fog around town with their fogging machines. I bet there are dengue cases happened lately. If wasn't any new cases then it's impossible for these people to be so proactive in combating mosquitoes.

Speaking of mosquitoes let me think back the time in college when we raise the issue of mosquitoes in our hostels. We requested the admins to get some people to do fogging before any dengue started in the college. Our request had been rejected with the reason that there is no dengue cases happening yet in college. What a lame excuse. They will only care when someone or many students died in college because of dengue. Don't talk "prevention is better than cure to them", that's bull shit.

Transformer in town!

Optimus Prime coming to Sarikei.

LG company is coming to Sarikei with their Optimus Prime. They came to promote their LG electrical products. Their unique way of attracting customers had whole Sarikei Residents coming to visit especially those with children at home. It is an interesting event for such a small town.

Dream

Met her in Sibu town. A fair lady, smiling and polite. I greeted her and introduce myself. She replied my greeting with a warm handshake. It feels like meeting an old friend, sweet. It feels like, "yeah, she's the one I'm looking for", looks perfect and feeling is perfect! Her simple outfit didn't wear off the charm of her smile. Unable to describe the perfectness i felt.

Went around town together, walking around with sweet and warm atmosphere. Then at dawn, I asked her where she will stay tonight and she replied that her father told her to find a better location to stay for tonight. Her father gave her permission to visit the town today and went home tomorrow. I decided to treat her a meal in KFC and show her the place.

When we step into the door of KFC, a friend tapped my back. His face is serious, asking me to follow him with a hand sign. I had a bad feeling but i had no choice but to follow. I got no choice because they will come after me later on if I don't obey. I speed off with my motorcycle together with those guys. The lady is chasing by foot from behind, looking worried and sad.

I follow the people and turn into a shop area, quite deserted. Those guys want us to stand at the corridor upstairs and beat someone but we refused. We tried to signal a helicopter while they are not paying attention to us but missed. After some while, we signaled another van and two van came in to help. When i look at those guys coming down from the van, they are from another geng. It was like jumping from a hot pan into the pot.

We fought back and defeated the guy who force us here. It was a bloody scene. I grab the lady by the hand and ran leaving the place.

Till then, I woke up. The room is still as warm as it was when i lied down. I was too exhausted after school so I took a nap forgetting those heat in the room. I was a weird dream, it was a wild dream, felt like writing story scripts while i translate the memory into alphabets. One thing still clear in my mind is the perfect lady. Where should I look for her? Or, should I start looking for her?

Dream is always between virtual and reality, many people lost in it.

Injury again

Yes, that is blood. Don't ask me why so many injuries happened in my school. I don't know.

Last Friday, this boy had been coughing blood since morning. We didn't realize it until some students reported the matter. I ask the boy to let me see the blood. It is something serious to cough out so much blood so decided to bring him home before bringing him to the Poliklinik in Sarikei.

Upon arrival at his longhouse, many "mums" surrounded me and ask me what happened. Told them about the blood and explained to his mother. I requested his mother to come to school at 12 noon if they are going to follow the teacher to town since they don't have their own transport. She agreed so we went back to school.

At 12 noon after the school bell, we still waiting for his mother to come. She didn't turn up. We asked another parent from the same longhouse to remind her again to come at 1pm. There are still a few teachers in school by 1pm. She didn't show up either.

Today, some teacher asked the boy whether he had gone to the clinic and he replied "yes". Since he had gone to the clinic so it is a relief for us. But not later than that, he started to stand at the sink coughing blood again.

We immediately drove the boy back home, pick up his mother and drove directly to the emergency ward. I bet they didn't explain well to the clinic MA last Friday. The outpatient card i saw only stated cough.

The boy had X-ray during the checkup. Out of my surprise, i met my form 6 classmate having his practical in the ward. After X-ray, doctor attended him. The doctor asked a few questions and read a few words before he started to wear his mask. I suspected something so i quietly listen from beside. Doctor suspected tibi. 3 bottle were given for spit samples to be taken to the lab.

On the way back, Headmistress ask him not to come to school for three days. I understood that we don't want any risk of disease in school. By the way, if he is confirmed tibi patient, then many of us will get quarantined. This is occupational risk. This kind of risk never happened when i was in Cheras.

Injury

This little year-one-boy is running in school compound one early morning. His grandfather is the school guard. When i arrive in school, i heard his grandfather scolding him for running and sweating in the early morning. I gone into the office. It was around 6.55 am.

Around 7.20am, a teacher saw a group of students running towards the office and off he goes to see what happened. The teacher ran back after a while and told me a student had blood on his head. I grab the first aid kit and went to see.

He fell down on the cement floor during a chase and had half of his face covered with blood. His grandfather came running with a cane on his hand. He canned and scolded his grandson who is still covered with blood and crying. I'm quite shock that he didn't put the injury in priority. I only figure out the size of wound after cleaning the blood on his face. I gave a quick bandaging and send him to the nearby Klinik Desa with a colleague. I guess stitches were needed on the wound.

A nurse attended his injuries and gave some treatment. After that, the boy was given some PCM, Vitamin C and some yellow solution. The nurse said that stitches were not required. After we went back to school, i explained all the medications and remind the guard to open the bandage only after 3 days.

The second day i came to school, i saw the boy with the wound, uncovered. I don't know what the hell these parents are doing. I've explained and reminded him not to open the bandage in 3 days. It was not language barrier, i spoke Iban the other day. It is not possible he can't understand "after 3 days".

Today the boy didn't came to school. I think the wound started to swollen by this time.

Meeting an ENT Specialist Doctor

I arrived in Sibu on Friday afternoon. At 4pm, I went to see an Ear, Nose and Throat Specialist at Rejang Specialist Centre. I had suffered some nose problems two years back in KL and now it is getting worse. I went for a specialist instead of a medical doctor because I know I'll get a better and accurate treatment from the specialist. I had with me one hundred and fifty ringgit and think it is sufficient for a normal treatment.

The Indian doctor smiled to me the moment i step into his clinic. I told him what happened and he asked a few questions. He told me to stop using aircon, keep warm at night, keep house clean of dust, and void prawn, shells and various kind of seafood. "HOLD ON!", I told him. "I stop eating seafood for a short period or long period?". "Depends on situation, it might be life time." Damn it! Going to miss all the nice foods! How on earth I can resist a plate of deep fried prawn in front of me later? He concluded the problem as a nose allergy.

He took something which I can describe it similar to a weilding typo. He put the long tiny pipe gun into my nostrils and pump some weird liquid into it. The nurse beside pass some tissue papers to me and asked me to wait outside before doctor call me in again. So I went out with a wet eyes and nose.

Waited a while, the nurse called me in again. I sat back at the same chair. This time, the doctor hold another "somthing" which looks like a camera with very very long and tiny pipe. This time he put the thingy "into" my nostrils! It is a camera. I can view the inside of my nose in the TV right in front of me. The feeling was like my nose being raped. Doctor push the camera deeper and deeper and it feels like getting raped more and more. If he wasn't a specialist then I'll probably file a sue.

At the dispensary, the nurse taught me how to use a nostril spray then give me some medications. Paid RM192 with my credit card since the cash i brought is not enough. The whole meeting was nice, except for the "raping". Going to come back in a month.

Motorcycle accident

It was a rainy Thursday afternoon. As usual, I ride my motorcycle back home after school. When i reach Minah junction, i tried to slow down the motorcycle by using both the brakes at the front and the back. Unluckily, the brakes didn't work like usual. The slippery road turned my motorcycle to one side. The motorcycle "flew" away and i seconded. I lose control of everything so i just let myself roll on the road. I rolled for three rounds before i stopped and hit my head hard on the ground.

As what people said, God close a door and open another window. In this incident, he open 3 windows for me. First, I'm lucky there are no other vehicles passing by that might run over me and get me killed. Second, I was lucky to wear a tough helmet that really protect my head during the knock. Third, I'm not injured during the accident. I had my right leg feeling weak for one day.

First hand news of fire burning

SUNDAY, 12 July
Happened to be in Sibu today. Grandmother called and tell that there is a fire at a nearby house. I hurried to the house and saw the fire right opposite of the house. 2 units of Bomba vehicle is parked beside the road. Local Civil Defence also send one unit of their firemen. No one was injured during the fire. After i leave the scene, i called the Sibu Red Crescent and asked them to send in some relief item.

Photos to follow up.

Observation

Today I had another session of observation on my Year 4 Malay class by honarary headmistress. Teaching went accordingly and smooth, nothing too good or too bad. For me, it was just another session of class like what i normally do.

This is the interesting part, the comments. She commented that teacher should find the meaning of the vocabulary and tell it to the students and not asking them to find it by themselves. She meant that it is not right to let student use dictionary in class. Then she got a little problem with the sitting in the class. I let the students to sit around the teacher's desk and teach like what tuition centre is doing it since i had only four person in one class. She say that is not the correct way of teaching. Students should sit according to the sitting plan.

Then she recall back and said that she had a book on BM teaching 20 years ago which she thinks is very nice. She say she will find the book back home later and pass it to me for my reference. Oh my GOD! 20 years! Everything had changed since the past 20 years.

For teachers out there, be glad that your headmaster doesn't keep you in a museum. Now I'm stuck inside a museum gallery, still finding my way out.

Kudios!
